Beginner Level
Looking for an online beginner ballet class? You've come to the right place! Please read the entire class description for Beginner Ballet before enrolling: This online weekly dance class will give children an introduction to ballet positions, movements, and steps, but the tone will not be as serious or professional as that of a traditional ballet school. *Note: The Saturday section of this class will be ending in November. The last class of that section will be on November 2, 2024.* This is an ongoing dance class, if you are looking to only take one session of ballet simply unsubscribe after the class OR send me a message for assistance and I will be happy to help. This class is great for children who: -are interested in ballet, but you aren't sure if it will "stick" -could use ballet as a foundation for stage performance or other dance -love ballet and dancing and are eager to learn, practice, and dance! -need the boost of confidence that dance and ballet provide -could use improvement in posture, coordination, core strength, and flexibility -need a homeschool physical education class -need an afterschool activity Our ballet class will be open to all children: boys, girls, English language learners, and those with special needs. Please send me a message if your child requires any special accommodations. Ballet students will be introduced to movements, steps, and combinations and will receive feedback/guidance for improvement. We mainly use the Vaganova style of ballet in class, but will occassionally reference the Cecchetti ballet style. We will use music from various classical ballets including "The Nutcracker", "Swan Lake", "The Sleeping Beauty", "Giselle", "Peter and the Wolf", "Coppélia", "Carnival of the Animals", "Romeo and Juliet", "Don Quixote", "Cinderella", and more! Class format: -"Question of the Day" (simple silly question that each student will have a turn to answer) -Basic ballet stretches -Pre-barre (plies, tondues, etc.) -Jumps -Ballet Game (Ballet Freeze Dance or Ballet Simon Says) -Across the floor (ballet walks, leaps, turns, etc.) -Closing Question: "What was your favorite part of today's class?" and option for show-and-tell Appropriate attire for ballet class: -Comfortable pants/t-shirt -Leggings and a tank top -Leotard and tights Appropriate footwear for ballet class: -Ballet slippers -Sneakers -Socks -Bare feet Classroom Page: I reccomend looking at the post on the classroom page 5-10 minutes before the start of class. I will post the "question of the day" before each class and your child can prepare their answer before joining to relieve any anxiety. Always take a peek at the classroom page after class, as well. I often post tips, ballet videos, links to music used in class, or optional at-home extension ideas. If a family has any special needs, comments, or concerns before or after class they can feel free to send me a private message on Outschool and I will do my best to accommodate to your satisfaction within 48 hours. PS--Ballet class age range is flexible--especially to accommodate siblings! If your child is 5-6: I recommend this ballet class if your child has moderate-strong gross-motor skills (is able to march, skip, etc.) and is experienced with Zoom classes. If your child is new to Zoom and has not yet developed their gross-motor skills, I recommend trying my ballet class for ages 6 and under (Introduction to Ballet). Feel that your child is ready for a bit more of a challenge? Be sure that ballet students are head-to-toes on camera when standing and sitting. Students should have water, room to move, comfortable clothing, and appropriate footwear (make sure they can move and dance in what they are wearing). Students can wear ballet slippers, sneakers, socks, or bare feet.
Parents may want to remain close by during ballet class to encourage attention and help with any technology issues that might arise.
If any technological issues arise during class (ex: teacher is inaudible), parents can send me a message in the chat on Zoom and I will do my best to resolve the issue.
If a family has any special needs, comments, or concerns before or after ballet class they can feel free to send me a private message on Outschool and I will do my best to accommodate to your satisfaction within 48 hours.
This ballet class is great for students who are neurotypical, neurodiverse, have Autism, ADHD, speech impairments, dyslexia, Down Syndrome, and many other disability classifications.
