This class is great for kids who are curious about raising backyard chickens. It's best for students with no previous knowledge about the topic as it's an introduction to begin understanding chickens. Students will have a chance to test their knowledge about care for backyard chickens and learn answers to some interesting questions like: What are the parts of a coop and do I have to scoop poop? How can I get blue eggs? Do I need a rooster to get eggs? What do chickens eat? How do I care for chickens? Can you train chickens like you can dogs? When do chickens lay eggs? Learners will answer Kahoot questions and we will discuss the answers. To conclude, students will have a chance to ask individual questions. **Parents- please be sure your learner is able to access the Kahoot game by going to another tab or window or using another device. This might be something you want to practice before class if you have a younger learner. **This class requires a minimum of 4 learners in order to run a section . I will always let families know at least 2 days in advance if there aren't enough learners enrolled to run a class.
Learning Goals
Students will understand what is needed to care for backyard chickens. They will understand how eggs are produced and how they get their colors.

External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have owned chickens for 7 years. Living in the suburbs and having chickens is becoming more popular and people who are not "born-farmers" like myself have had to teach ourselves everything there is to know about raising chickens. I'm a chicken "mom"!
