In this class learners will learn two ways to tune their guitar. First learners will explore the tuning pins, strings, and how the sound changes when turning the pins. Learners will briefly practice identifying higher and lower sounds, this is an important skill for tuning. Then the electronic tuner or app will be explained. Learners will use their tuner to tune each string of their guitar with assistance from the teacher. Once their guitar is in tune learners will learn a second way of tuning the guitar, without the use of a tuner. This method of tuning will tune the guitar to itself. It might not be tuned to concert pitch, but it will sound correct when playing chords. This is a great skill to have to be able to check your guitar tuning as well! This is a class for beginners, no prior musical or tuning knowledge is necessary. Learners should have a guitar and an electronic tuner or tuning app on a device that they can use. Class time may vary based on the number of students enrolled.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn how to independently tune their guitar.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Ciao ciao!
I'm Ms. Meredith and I live in northeastern Massachusetts. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner, and I hope to motivate others, especially young learners, to become lifelong learners as well! I aim to encourage young learners to find a passion that will inspire them to love learning and lead them to continue learning throughout their lives.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Immaculata University in Pennsylvania and a STB Theology degree from the Pontificia Universita San Tommaso D'Aquino in Rome, Italy. I have worked with learners of all ages in many different capacities for over 15 years. I have been a summer camp counselor, swim instructor, peer mentor, online ESL teacher, and I was a nanny and English language tutor for a family in Italy for three years. I currently work full-time teaching music and theology to learners of all ages.
When I am not teaching you can find me traveling or cooking! I have lived in 4 different States and also in Italy for 5 years. My travels have taken me to 49 States in the USA and 31 countries throughout North America and Europe. I would love to share my stories, experiences, and what I have learned through my travels with young learners to help them to recognize and appreciate the beauty and diversity of our country and our world.
I hope to inspire your learner to discover their own individual passions and fall in love with learning, so join me in the classroom for a discovery mission and begin the journey to lifelong learning!
