What's included

4 live meetings
2 in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Learners should plan to spend some time in between classes reviewing the material learned. A few minutes per day would be plenty for this class!

Class Experience

Beginner guitar:
Class 1 - How to hold the guitar
               Strumming & plucking
               String names
Class 2 - Review of Class 1 plus start to work on simple songs and chords
Class 3 - Continue work on songs & chords
Class 4 - Performance & review! Learners will have the chance to perform a solo if they would like to do so. It can be as simple as playing a rhythm or showing us their favourite string. The emphasis in this course is on process rather than performance.

**Please note that the schedule will be adjusted as necessary depending on the makeup of the class.**

This class is best suited for learners who have no prior guitar experience. All learners must have a guitar to participate in this class. **3 OR 6 string guitars are fine for this class.** Please message me prior to signing up if you are not sure whether or not your instrument is suitable. Please note that UKULELES are NOT ok for this class since the setup and tuning is completely different.

Through games, interactive screen share & turn-taking, your learners will have fun while learning the building blocks of music through guitar playing.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the names of the guitar's strings, how to hold the guitar, plucking & strumming, and simple chords and songs.

Other Details

Supply List
Learners MUST have access to an appropriate size guitar during class. Please contact me if you have questions about the instrument you have.

I'm asking parents to get color coded stickers to put on 2 of the frets on the guitar. You can either use stickers or there is a set of fret identifier stickers available on Amazon with this link

https://www.amazon.com/Fretboard-Markers-Sticker-Decals-Guitar/dp/B00PGQYNOM/ref=sr_1_48?crid=1JH637FL27MV7&dchild=1&keywords=guitar+fretboard+stickers&qid=1608263997&sprefix=guitar+fretboard+%2Caps%2C173&sr=8-48

Alternately, if you would prefer just to use stickers or colored paper, we need to mark the first fret (closest to the end of the guitar) with blue and the third fret with red.

Hi! I am a musician offering classes in guitar, cello, music theory & composition. I have 4 different music degrees and have been teaching for over 20 years in the US and Canada. My main goal for learners is to enjoy the process of music-making.
Fun fact: I umpired softball for 25+ years and once even got to umpire for a national tournament!
