Homework
I suggest that students practice the amount required to reach their goals.
Assessment
Musicians are generally assessed based on public performance. For those uncomfortable performing, music recording software is a valuable tool for creating songs that can be sold online or not.

Class Experience

Students can learn songs they like. I'll incorporate essential knowledge along the way. We can study rock, pop, country, hip-hop, jazz, classical music, Jimi Hendrix, Ed Sheeran, or anything in-between. This class is designed for intermediate to advanced learners. Accordingly, I encourage a greater understanding of music theory to foster real-world performance success. We may also draw from jazz or classical methodology.

Topics covered include:

General music concepts
Tablature
Ear training
Improvisation
Songwriting
Sightreading

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach guitar, ukulele, songwriting, and creative writing in a non-judgmental manner.

My professional music career began at age fifteen when I landed a gig in a Led Zeppelin cover band. It wasn't long before I was expanding my rock-and-roll knowledge with jazz, classical music, pop, and hip-hop. In 2003, I graduated cum laude from Purchase College with a dual degree in music and literature. I've been working as a freelance musician and teacher ever since. I have ten years of experience in narrative writing as well. In 2017, I was selected as a winner of T.A. Barron's Origin Story Contest.

I've found that private instruction serves individual needs best. So I like to teach one-on-one and adapt to address student goals.
