In this summer camp students will learn the basics of guitar playing and music fundamentals while we will retell the most famous children's stories. We play children's songs, learn new chords & strumming patterns and seek adventures.

Other skills children will learn in this class: ♪ strum at different tempos (fast and slow) ♪ strum with different dynamics: loud, quiet, from quiet to loud building momentum; ♪ how to follow chord patterns (with animals and colours for children who can't read yet); ♪ how to play multiple songs
🎵 My name is Bella and I have been a teacher for 20 years. I love teaching music, guitar and ukulele to young children because it gives them a way to FIND who they are, to EXPRESS their feelings, emotions and thoughts and to LET IT GO! 🎵 I have found that young children love playing musical instruments, making up their own songs, creating rhythmic patterns and learning a new musical instrument through story-type lessons. I am building each new lesson on their interests and passion, aiming not only to teach them a skill, but to develop a life-long LOVE for music, to SING, CREATE and PLAY the songs from their hearts! 🎵 My classes are fun, interactive, small groups of children where each child finds their voice and shines bright!
Practising 5 minutes a day will help with the development of the hand and fingers and strengthen the muscles required to play the guitar and press on the frets. Students can practise the strumming techniques and the chords discussed in class. The teacher will share digital copies of the songs that we learn during our classes, so students can practise those songs as well.
➡️ Learners can use a pick, but it is not compulsory; I actually recommend the use of fingers for strumming/picking. ➡️ Please make sure you position the learners, so I can see their BOTH hands when playing, head to the waist, in a well-lit room. The young learner can sit on the floor, with their legs crossed. If they are joining from an iPad/laptop, they can also be on the floor or a little stool, it can point straight or downwards. ➡️ Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions or concerns. 🎵 The teacher will provide the songs and other files (strumming and chord sheets); 🎵 Students can have a classical or an acoustic guitar as well as an electric guitar plugged into an amp and also a CAPO. 🎵 Tuner App 🎵 Please make sure you tune your guitar before class as we will not discuss tuning in this class. Each Student will be informally assessed by the teacher during each lesson and will be given pointers on what to practise, how to correct or what to modify, so their playing technique improves with each session.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
- Please make sure you tune your guitar before class as we will not discuss tuning in this class. - After you enrol your learner, there is a link to a Youtube Video in the classroom welcoming message. It explains how to tune your guitar using a guitar tuner app on your phone.
NO books are needed for the stories we will retell and sing. I will provide slides of what the children need to read/sing.
