Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Get ready to learn all about a fall favorite -Pumpkins!

In this class we blend reading, writing, math and science together to create a meaningful learning environment that helps students master the content.

Here is what you can expect each day!

Day One:

We'll start with a pumpkin song and a pumpkin book. Students will get to share what they already know about pumpkins and then they'll get to make their own book all about the life cycle of pumpkins.

Day Two:

Will it float or sink - mini pumpkin experiment

Label Parts of a Pumpkin

Day Three:

Unbelievable Pumpkins - we will learn about the craziest, biggest, oddest shaped and most colorful pumpkins out there.

Students will make a pumpkin glyph

Day Four:

The "big" pumpkin experiment

Sorting, counting, organizing the seeds

This class does need some parent involvement, especially class four. A pumpkin will need to be precut, just the top off, before class starts.

Other Details

Supply List
Day One: Print pumpkin book provided in classroom 24 hours prior to class starting, crayons or colored pencils, either a paperclip or a staple to put the book together.

Day Two: One mini pumpkin, large bowl of water, pumpkin glyph paper printed. The kids usually really enjoy the sink or float activity, so we may recreate the experiment with items in the house. It might be helpful for them to have some waterproof objects nearby!

Day Three: Pumpkin label sheet printed, crayons or colored pencils

Day Four: One "big" pumpkin (this can be a typical carving pumpkin or some of the more off the wall ones found at places like Trader Joes) The top of the pumpkin needs to be cut off so students can access the inside. They should do this in an area that is easy to learn because it will get messy! I highly recommend doing this experiment on top of a cheap, plastic tablecloth you can throw away.

They should also have crayons and a pencil handy for each class.

Hello families! I’m Amanda and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your learner! I love everything about education and feel consider being a teacher as part of who I am. It is my passion!

I have a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education, two active teaching licenses in Arizona and reading and ESL endorsements. I've been teaching since 2017 and I'm working towards a master's in child and adolescent development.

My goal as your learner’s teacher is to inspire them to be lifelong learners. Learning is scary and requires a lot of vulnerability to take chances knowing you could make a mistake. I pride myself on helping students feel safe, confident, and secure in themselves. I’ve always seen tremendous growth in students when they are in an environment that allows for them to safely make mistakes and learn from them.

I’m looking forward to meeting your learner and joining them in their educational journey!
