Intermediate Level
In this ongoing class students will learn a new phonetic rule each week. It is perfect for students who can blend three letter CVC words. They should know their letters, sounds, and be able to read simple books or passages without much help. Typically, students in first or second grade have these skills, although there are some advanced readers in kindergarten that may be able to join. If you are unsure if your learner should be in this class or one at a more foundational level, please reach out and I can give you samples and we can discuss which class might be best We will learn two different phonemic skills a week, one each day. We will practice these rules, building words, and reading words. Depending on the skill level of the class we may read a short passage that reinforces the phonemic skill they learned. If we do not get to it during our class time I am happy to email a copy to you and you can complete it with your learner if you'd like. This is optional though, homework is not required. There will be some days when students will watch a short video or hear a song that will help them remember the specific rule they are working on. Hello families! I’m Amanda and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your learner! I love everything about education and feel consider being a teacher as part of who I am. It is my passion!
I have a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education, two active teaching licenses in Arizona and reading and ESL endorsements. I've been teaching since 2017 and I'm working towards a master's in child and adolescent development.
My goal as your learner’s teacher is to inspire them to be lifelong learners. Learning is scary and requires a lot of vulnerability to take chances knowing you could make a mistake. I pride myself on helping students feel safe, confident, and secure in themselves. I’ve always seen tremendous growth in students when they are in an environment that allows for them to safely make mistakes and learn from them.
I’m looking forward to meeting your learner and joining them in their educational journey!
