What will be taught? In this class, students will learn about the history of our nation's flag, (USA). What topics will you cover? 1. We will learn about the first flag and why it was made. 2. We will discuss the reason for the colors and symbols used in the flag. 3. How the flag has changed as our country has changed will be shown. 4. We will hear the Pledge of Allegiance and talk about what it means. 5. We will complete a flag craft to help remember what we have learned. How is your class structured? We will begin with introductions. Next, the topics will be covered in the sequence listed above. These will be Q&A to elicit answers from the children so they can share the knowledge they already have to promote personal confidence. I will show examples of various flags throughout our history as our country has developed. we will review the i information with a game. After about 30 minutes of discussion, we will begin a hands-on activity. How will you teach? Primarily through Q&A, images to share and discussion of facts. Children are encouraged to speak, share and take turns. What's your teaching style? Informal - guided discussion How much will learners get to interact with you (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? Participation in answering questions, discussions, and games.

Learning Needs
This informal class employs discussion, Q&A, hands on learning, and games. These activities provide a variety of ways the student can learn and interact with the teacher and classmates.
Parental Guidance
Younger students may need assistance with the craft activity if they are not proficient with using glue and scissors.
Pre-Requisites
No prerequisites, but students should be able to use scissors and glue sticks or have the aid of an adult.

Bachelor's Degree in Education from Asbury College (University)
I hold a degree in Elementary Education from Asbury University. I have taught children and adult teachers and caregivers for 40 + years. I have also worked as a writer, contributor, and editor on a Georgia State Curriculum for Elementary and Middle School Social Studies.
