Tutoring for Ages 6-10: Phonics, Reading Comprehension, Math Concepts

If your K-3 child struggling with math, reading or phonics, I can help your child scaffold their learning. Scaffolding helps children experience success, building on skills they already have, adding new concepts and ideas progressively.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this tutoring class, students will receive individualized instruction with reading and math skills.
Week 1- The instructor will conduct an informal assessment of the child's reading ability. This will be accomplished through reading a specifically selected passage, after communicating with the child's parent via classroom email. We will play some simple word games and complete activities to assess strength with phonics, sight words and grammar.
Week 2 and so on- The instructor will target specific skills and provide instruction and practice in these each week following the first week.
The instructor will maintain communication with the guardian to see how the instruction is affecting the child's proficiency, and will make adjustments as needed to the curriculum.
There will be informal assessment throughout the tutoring sessions.
Encouragement and appreciation for each small advancement a student makes are integral to my teaching methods.
Learning Goals
1. improve reading comprehension.
2. improve phonetic awareness.

Learning Needs
I support learners with diverse needs. Since this is a one-to-one class, I am able to assess your student's learning styles, preferences and neurodivergent needs. I use multiple modalities, including hands-on, auditory, visual, creative.
Parental Guidance
Hello and welcome to my classroom. After introductions, I will do an informal assessment to see what your child already knows. Afterward, I would like to speak with a parent to find out your goals and any concerns you have for your child's reading or math abilities . With this information, I can work with you to address your child's learning needs. If you know how to turn on annotation for your child, we will use this interactive tool. If you do not know how, I can help you. If your child uses a ChromeBook, this feature is not available. That is fine, we can work around it. A small hand-held dry-erase board with a black dry-erase marker will be used in some classes. I am looking forward to meeting you both . Ms Bobbi

I believe children learn best through play and fun. For thirty plus years, I relied upon this knowledge to help young children learn. In my experience, kids want to read, but sometimes the mechanics seem overwhelming. Breaking reading down into bite-sized pieces, where kids experience success, is the key to igniting a passion for reading and learning. Kids love numbers. I encourage their natural curiosity and help them build skills with numbers and math concepts.
