Informal assessment, and parent communication, will inform the teacher of the child's progress.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 3
In this one-time class students will learn how the magic 'e' helps them to know what vowel sound to use when decoding CVCe words. This class will concentrate on learning how to pronounce the CVCe words only. The teacher will allow students to tell a little about themselves in order to put the kids at ease. We will start with an introduction of the function of the silent "e". From there, we will practice adding silent 'e' to CVC words to show the different vowel sounds in similar words. Next, we will read short passages using both CVC and CVCe words. I will make the class interactive so that students are practicing on screen. I provide lots of encouragement and help children scaffold their own learning as we proceed through the class. What's my teaching style? Informal. I try to keep the class relaxed. Students are encouraged to participate, but I strive not to make them feel uncomfortable when they are shy or reluctant. How much will learners get to interact with you (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?Class interaction includes...writing words on the slides, choosing letters to create "silly" words, and reading aloud. When children are uncomfortable with reading or have lower reading skills, I may use "popcorn" reading to help them feel more included and a part of the reading process. Any required experience or knowledge? Yes, Students should be able to read CVC words such as cat, mug, dot, sir etc.... . They should know the short vowel sounds.
Learning Goals
To learn how to identify long vowels in words with a silent 'e' at the end.
To read CVCe words with confidence.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Asbury College (University)
I believe children learn best through play and fun. For forty plus years, I have relied upon this knowledge to help young children learn. In my experience, kids want to read, but sometimes the mechanics seem overwhelming. Breaking reading down into bite-sized pieces, where kids experience success, is the key to igniting a passion for reading and learning. I received my education degree from Asbury University and did my Early childhood graduate work at Pittsburg state University.
