US Grade 1 - 3
In this four-day camp, students will work on descriptive writing and will work on improving their writing. This class meets four days in a week.

In this course, students will ...
     - brainstorm
     - write a draft
     - revise
     - edit
     - write a final draft
     - create a writing booklet

Below is a breakdown of the classes in this course:

****** DAY 1: BRAINSTORMING AND WRITING ******
Students will be introduced to the writing focus: Descriptive Writing. Students will learn ways to add descriptive words to their writing. They will also be given the writing topic for the week. They will be writing about themselves. In this class, students will brainstorm ideas and write a paragraph.

The first class in this course will follow this structure:
       - Introduction to the writing focus (Descriptive Writing)
       - Minilesson on the writing focus (ways to add descriptive words to your writing)
       - Introduction to the writing topic (All About Me)

       - Students will brainstorm with a graphic organizer
       - Teacher will model how to use the graphic organizer to write a draft
       - Students will use their graphic organizer to write a draft

I will check-in with each student to make sure they have some ideas to write on and to assist with brainstorming some ideas for their writing.

****** DAY 2: REVISING AND EDITING ******
Students will review the writing focus. Students will revise and edit their writing in this class. I will model how to revise my writing and show students how to incorporate the writing focus into my writing. Next, students will revise their own writing. Students will look for ways to add descriptive words to their writing. I will assist students as needed. Then, I will show students how to edit their writing. I use a method called COPS: Capitals, Organization, Punctuation, and Spelling. Students will edit their writing using each part of the method to guide their editing.

Revising and editing will follow these structures:

Revising:
   - Revise by adding descriptive words or details

Editing:
   - Capitalization
   - Organization
   - Punctuation
   - Spelling

As they are editing, I will check-in with each student. I will give some tips and ideas on how students can improve their writing. When students finish revising and editing, we will practice using descriptive words.

****** DAY 3: FINAL DRAFT ******
Students will review the writing focus. Students will write their final draft in this class.

The third class of this course will follow this structure:
    - Practice the writing focus (descriptive words)
    - Teacher will model how to write the final draft
    - Students will write a final draft by using their revisions and edits from the previous class
    - Students will share their final draft with the group

Students will be encouraged to write in their best handwriting. As students finish writing their final drafts, we will do an activity that practices descriptive words.

****** DAY 4: PUBLISHING ******
Students will create a booklet about themselves. They will turn their writing into a booklet. Students will share their booklet with the class and with their family.

The booklet will consist of the following pages:
     - Title Page
     - Four Writing Pages
