Learners in Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 practice the types of problems shown in the video preview, above. They will use the distributive property, identify like terms, combine like terms, and write their answers in descending order. Learners should be familiar with the concept of variables (x’s and y’s in a math problem) and with the concept of exponents. I'll walk them through the process step-by-step. I use scaffolded instruction, which simply means that I provide more support at the beginning and gradually students work more and more independently with each new problem. I provide guidance and feedback throughout the lesson. I'm a high school math teacher with a master’s degree in Education, and I specialize in working with students who struggle with math. Questions? HI! I’m Mary Kennedy, certified math teacher, and I love working with students who struggle with high school math and doubt that they can do it.
I've taught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and have more than 20 years of teaching experience. My Master's degree is in Learning Disabilities.

I do life in a tiny tourist town with my husband and three kids (when they're home from college).
Twice, my family has had the unique and wonderful experience of hosting students from Southeast Asia in our home and community. We have maintained friendships with these students and their families for several years now through technology, despite our geographic distance.
