What's included

18 live meetings
9 in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Daily homework consisting of 6-10 problems over that day's topic. Plan on daily practice outside of classroom time. Answer keys are provided so learners can check their final answers. Turn in homework by Friday each week for personalized feedback. I'll plan to grade it and provide feedback to your learner by Monday of the following week. If I don't receive homework by Friday, it will not be checked and feedback will not be given.
Assessment
1-Weekly mini assessments. These are self-checking, 5 problem Google forms assessments to help your learner check for understanding. (No login is required.) Learners can re-take these as many times as you'd like. They will be able to see what they missed, if any, as soon as the quiz is submitted. Individual tries or scores for the mini assessments are not reported to Mrs. Kennedy. 2-Final Assessment & Certificate: Learners must be enrolled for the entire course to receive a final assessment. Upon course completion, a final assessment will be provided. Learners who submit their completed assessment and score 70% or higher on the assessment within two weeks of the course ending will receive a certificate of passing Algebra 1. Alternate versions of the assessment will be available for 2 retakes, with a maximum of 3 attempts. All requests for alternate versions and learner submissions of completed assessments must occur within 2 weeks post-course for Mrs. Kennedy to issue the certificate.
Grading
Learners who are taking this class for Algebra 1 credit will receive a letter grade when requested by the parent. A passing certificate will be provided for learners who pass the final assessment as described above, in the Assessment Policy. The grade will be based on the highest score on the final assessment (among completed assessments submitted within 2 weeks of the last day of the course ending) as follows: A: 90-100% B: 80-89% C: 70-79% F: <70%

Is your learner failing math?

Does your teen say things like…

I can’t do math!
I’ll never get this.
I’m going to fail this math class!
I’m so dumb.

Well, you’re in the right place.

HI! I’m Mary Kennedy, certified math teacher, and I love working with students who struggle with high school math and doubt that they can do it.

I've taught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and have more than 20 years of teaching experience. My Master's degree is in Learning Disabilities.

In my classes, students connect their learning to critical thinking skills (includes reasoning, analysis, and perseverance) and growth mindset (“I haven’t learned this YET.”).

I strive to make the math concepts accessible to struggling learners.

Help your teen regain confidence and learn the skills they need to pass Algebra.

Don’t let math continue to disrupt your family’s life.

About Mrs. K.
I do life in a tiny tourist town with my husband and three kids (when they're home from college).

Twice, my family has had the unique and wonderful experience of hosting students from Southeast Asia in our home and community. We have maintained friendships with these students and their families for several years now through technology, despite our geographic distance.

I love working with students from every country and encourage their language skills in my math classes.
