Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
This is a one time class on how to perform operations with positive and negative numbers. This is an ideal lesson as an introduction or as a review for integers.

The student will be given a printable worksheet with number lines that will be used during class. The worksheet can also be utilized for additional practice to do after the class is over. At the end of class, we will play a review card game where students will calculate the value of their hand. Students may use their own deck of cards or I will provide a virtual hand of cards.

The following math concepts will be discussed:
Definition of negative numbers
Adding and subtracting integers
Multiplying and dividing integers

All materials will be provided though students can bring their own deck of cards.

No grades or formal assessments will be performed in this course.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of positive and negative numbers. They will be able to perform basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) of both positive and negative numbers through the use of number lines and mental math.
