US Grade 6 - 9
Welcome!! This is a 10 week Multi-Day summer course that will cover the key concepts every student needs to know before entering Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1. Many students take Algebra 1 the first year of high school. High school is challenging enough by itself. Let's work together to make the math part easier! Though this class is not only for high school students, this class is perfect for any student getting ready to take Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1. During this 10 week course we will learn concepts in an interactive format. Students will be able to build understanding, have problems modeled for them, and have time to do independent practice where I can check for their understanding. At the end of each class students will be given a cumulative worksheet to cover material from the class (and previous classes). We will go over all correct answers at the beginning of the next class and students will have time to ask questions and discuss solutions and their processes of answering the questions. The following are the concepts that we will focus on each week (remember, there are 2 classes each week so we will make sure to dive into these topics thoroughly): Week 1: Integers and Variables Week 2: Solving Equations Week 3: Solving Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities Week 4: Factors and Exponents Week 5: Rational Numbers and Fractions Week 6: Proportions and Percents Week 7: Slope and Slope-Intercept Form Week 8: Systems of Equations Week 9: Quadratic Equations and the Quadratic Formula Week 10: Polynomials **MAKE UP SESSIONS AVAILABLE IF NOT ABLE TO ATTEND SOME CLASSES!! (Message for details) I have taught math for 15 years in fun and interactive ways with much success. I have taught Algebra 1 to literally over a thousand students and I am confident I can help your learner prepare for Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. Though my approach can be characterized as energetic and engaging, the structure and detail of the class guarantees students will be presented knowledge in a way that cultivates mastery. Student learning is my passion, and I truly believe math can be mastered in a fun environment. I expect each student to come to class with a pencil and notebook, ready to take notes and ready to participate. I also expect students to give a good attempt on the worksheets that are given out each class, so I can check for understanding. Many schools require students to have a scientific calculator such as the TI-30XIIS or the like for Algebra 1. I would like students to have some type of scientific calculator or calculating device during this class. These calculators can be usually found for about $15. If you have questions about the calculator please message me. I hope to see your learner in class soon!! Brian McNair
