What's included

Homework
Students are asked to spend at least 10 minutes quietly writing about the prompt of the day. And then take about 5 minutes to respond or share in the classroom forum. Anything above the 10 minutes of writing time is above and beyond! (Not necessary, but encouraged whenever they begin to feel the enthusiasm for what they're writing about. Students can also make time to create drawings or other artwork to accompany their journaling and insights, which can be uploaded for an extra way to connect with other students as well.)
Assessment
Students will be assessed based on their participation. This means taking 10 minutes each day / week to write about the given prompts. As well as sharing a selection from their journal writing that day AND/OR commenting on another student's post with a compliment or kind words of support. This way, students are connecting, but if what they've written on a certain day feels too personal to share, they have the choice to simply comment on and support another student's idea instead. Students are asked to have their comments posted by 3pm PST each day to receive feedback from me.

Class Experience

Each Monday, I will post 3 new journal prompts and a short video introduction to give suggestions for how learners can use them to explore their thoughts, ideas, and emotions through journaling that week!

Then, throughout the week, students will be encouraged to:
- Spend at least 10-20 minutes journaling about one or more of the prompts given (or wherever their thoughts and ideas take them!)
- Share a favorite sentence or section from their writing if they would like
- And comment on something a fellow journal adventurer as shared from their writing

I will check in daily during the week to respond to students' comments and insights! :) This means you should always have a response from me within 24 hours.

I believe it is incredibly important for each student to know their words and whatever insights they want to share are valued.

Please make sure to have any comments posted by 10 am Pacific Time on Friday to make sure you receive a kind note of response and feedback from me before the weekend! :)

This flexible class provides a great opportunity for students to do a little writing at a time that works best for them, with guided support and check-ins from me throughout the week.

It also encourages them to share something from their writing each week, and connect with other students through common themes in their writing. This is a GREAT way for students to build their own confidence and to see that they are not alone in many of the things they choose to write about.

Sharing is not intended to provide therapeutic support, but is a great way for kids to connect and will support learners in their journaling adventures.

Hope to see you in class soon so we can set out on some fun Journaling Adventures together! :)

And feel free to reach out in a message with any questions!

Other Details

Supply List
It would be great for students to have a notebook dedicated specifically to their journaling for this class (but is not required). Students can also use individual sheets of paper and simply keep the pages all together to make it easier for them to look back and reflect during the final week of the class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Journaling is at the heart of my own self-care practice, as well as my work as a life coach. I believe writing is one of the most powerful tools we have to build connection, play with self-expression and explore self-discovery in a way that is nurturing, kind, and valuable for overall well-being. I can't wait to share these fun and meaningful prompts with your kids to hear about the amazing stories and insights I know they willl have to share!
