Assessment
Students are assessed based on particpation. This means being open to explore their ideas and think about what they're grateful for, doing their best to write the poems, and sharing their poem(s) if they choose. This also means listening respectfully to the ideas and poems of others. :)

Class Experience

Poetry is a FUN way to share, play with, and express what we're grateful for at Thanksgiving, or any time of the year!

During this one-time class, students will be guided through a writing process to create two different kinds of poems based on the theme of what they feel most grateful for this year.

The first poem will be an Acrostic where students will think of things they're grateful for that begin with each letter in the word "thankful" or "grateful." Students may also choose to use the word "gratitude."

Then we'll expand on what students feel grateful for in a free writing / journaling format.

Once they've written a handful of sentences, I'll show them a neat trick, and a magical way of creating a Pantoum Poem in a sort of "paint by numbers" format. It's truly magical, and so fun!

Gratitude is a powerful life skill and writing is a fun way to introduce and explore this together.

I hope you can join us!

*Please note that this class is not about the history or holiday of Thanksgiving, but is simply a writing class where we'll talk about and express what we're grateful for during the week of Thanksgiving, at other times throughout the year.
