Creating Stories That Fly: A Weekly Creative Writing Workshop
Each week we'll play with a new creative writing prompt, talk about a specific writing tool or strategy, and then share our stories! #creative
US Grade 3 - 6
This class is perfect for students who enjoyed the Writing MAGIC Creative Writing Class, or for anyone who loves writing creative stories. :) Join us each week for new creative writing prompts as well as tools and tips to help your stories and imagination soar! We'll begin each class with a short creative writing lesson to talk about a new tool or aspect of creative writing. (This could be how to write captivating descriptions, how to structure your story, how to get your ideas down, and...
Students will understand and practice the main components of writing a creative story. Students will learn techniques to support their creative writing skills. Students will write a creative story in each class. Students will listen to and give positive feeback for the stories of others. Students will share their own work with confidence and ease.
In addition to my experience teaching writing in a public school setting, I've received training in a writing workshop for teachers called "Teacher as Writer" and I also work as a life coach, supporting women in healing through a writing process I teach. Writing is at the heart of what I do, and all that I love! :) I can't wait to share the joy of it with your kids!
There is not any assigned homework for this class... however, I ALWAYS encourage students to keep playing with their stories outside of class and keep writing as much as they want! :) And I often hear from parents that students do this with enthusiasm!
All students need is a notebook or some paper and something to write with. :)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are assessed based on participation. This means showing up with openness and curiosity, being engaged in listening and answering questions as the main content is presented, being kind to their peers, participating in active writing time, and sharing their work when it feels appropriate / supportive for them. Our focus in this class is on creative ideas and getting those down onto paper in a magical and easy way!
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
