Students will have fun and learn the alphabet in this fun, interactive class. The class will begin with phonemic awareness activities to help them hear the sounds of each letter. Then they will pair that sound with the letter that matches it. We will listen to a story that repeats the sound often. Then students will search for words that begin with that sound and make their own lists of words that begin with those letters. We will say chants, sing original ABC songs, and play interactive...
Students will learn letter recognition and sounds. They will also practice identifying the beginning sounds of various words.
I have my M.A. as a Reading Specialist. I taught reading in the public school classroom for 10 years and in our homeschool for 8 years. Reading is my favorite subject!
There will be no homework for the class, but students are encouraged to keep practicing the letters that we cover.
No special resources aside from what students can do on Zoom will be required, but if students wish to bring something to share that begins with the letter we are studying that day, that is welcome and encouraged. Students may also want to bring paper and something to write the letters with, or draw pictures.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed through student participation.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The class will largely be based off of Scholastic's "Big Book of AlphaTales." I will also be creating original material to accompany it.
