Welcome to 8th Grade and Pre-Algebra Math Tutoring. In this small group tutoring session, you will have the opportunity to obtain homework help or math tutoring for any concepts you are struggling with. The topics generally found in an 8th grade and Pre-Algebra mathematics curriculum include:
Laws of Exponents, The Number System to Irrational Numbers, Linear Equations, Square Roots, Cube Roots, Operations with Scientific Notation, Functions, Graphing and Graphs of Linear and Non-Linear Equations, Pythagorean Theorem, Transformations, Distance on a Coordinate Plane, Understand and Solving Problems with Volume of Cylinders, Cones, and Spheres, Scatter Plots, Lines of Best Fit, and Probability.
There are many other 8th grade topics to learn as well. Math is a magical and wonderful life skill. I look forward to helping you develop a deeper love and understanding of math.
Pre-requisites: Near or complete mastery of Multiplication Tables and basic multiplication and division skills such as 42/6 = 7. Willingness to attend and participate in class activities with good listening skills. Teacher will model using whiteboard, pdf notes, slides, video clips, and games.
Each week we will have a focus topic for extension, remediation, or just practice. Depending on the needs of the learners enrolled, this can change. The following lesson plan calendar is tentative and each topic will only take up a portion of the class to allow time for homework questions and additional tutoring. Breakout rooms will be used to break kids up into learning pathways and to facilitate mathematical discourse between learners. I will move between rooms to answer questions and model the use of math vocabulary in relation to mathematical discourse between students. This course will allow time for both homework help and a focus topic each week. The topics below follow state and national standards for 8th grade. This course may be used for state test prep and homework help. Please contact me for 1-1 tutoring or to take this course as a flex class.

Hello, I am Mrs. Holland and I am Highly Qualified by the Tennessee Department of Education as a Middle School Mathematics teacher.
I find great joy in helping children learn mathematics. Many of my students seek me out after high school to tell me how much they learned to love math after having my classes. I firmly believe that any student can learn math with the right teaching, patience, and support.
I have taught mathematics for over 25 years and hold a Masters Degree and Leadership Degree in my field. I have regularly taught 6th - 8th grade mathematics as well as Elementary and High School Math courses, Intervention courses, and ESL English Courses.
I am looking forward to working with you.
