US Grade 6
This class is part of a series of classes meant to provide opportunities for students to review and practice math concepts taught in pre-algebra. This is the first class of the series, and focuses on pre-algebra skills that are typically taught in sixth grade math. Learners should feel comfortable with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, decimals, and fractions independently before enrolling in this class. Learners should also bring paper/pencil or something to write with to each class meeting. A link to an optional independent practice activity will be posted in the Outschool classroom after each class meeting (usually the next morning). These activities are not required, but are there for learners to practice in between class meetings if they'd like to. Below is a list of concepts that we will be covering during this course. Day 1: Algebraic Vocabulary and Writing Variable Expressions Day 2: Evaluating Variable Expressions Day 3: Distributive Property Day 4: Combining Like Terms Day 5: Equivalent Expressions Day 6: Substitution and Writing Equations Day 7: Solve One-Step Addition and Subtraction Equations Day 8: Solve One-Step Multiplication and Division Equations Day 9: Word Problems with One-Step Equations Day 10: Graphing and Writing Inequalities Day 11: Solving and Graphing Solutions to One-Step Inequalities Please note that this is a multi-day class with a set schedule. Hello! I have been teaching in the public school setting for the past fifteen years, and tutoring privately for the past six years. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade in math, reading, writing mechanics, American History, and beginning Spanish. I especially enjoy working with students in small groups or individually, and have recently developed skills as an online educator due to school closures. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy watching television and movies, and traveling with my family.
