Welcome to personalized tutoring. This class is designed for a small group of 1 to 2 students. It is perfect for students who want to study 1-1 or with a classmate. I am able to give individualized attention to each student in this course and help with homework, test preparation, review and pre-teaching for ease of learning in school or homeschool. Sometimes, just doing coursework with a different teacher is all you need to understand and master a concept. Because I have been teaching mathematics for 30 years, I am able to quickly assess and design instruction in a way that helps learners move forward and master the concepts they need help with. I have taught all levels from Kindergarten through High School, although I have spent most of my time teaching the Middle Grades and Algebra concepts. Example topics include but are not limited to the following: Elementary School: - Basic Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication Facts and Patterns - Geometry concepts such as area and perimeter of 2D and 3D figures, Geometry vocabulary, circumference and area of circles, The Coordinate Plane - The relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages in various setting (number lines, diagrams) - Area models and algorithms for addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and mixed numbers - Place Value concepts for whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers and comparisons and conversions between them - Time, Money, Temperature, Metric, and Customary Systems - Powers of 10 - Data and Graphs Middle School - Algorithms and models for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole, rational, and irrational numbers - Geometry concepts such as Lines and angles, special angles formed by parallel lines and transversals; area, surface area, circumference, perimeter, and volume of 2D and 3D figures; The Coordinate Plane; Scale models and ratios, proportional relationships between dilations and reductions, and algebraic transformations (translations, rotations, and reflections), and Similar and Congruent Figures and their related ratios and proportions; Pythagorean Theorem in 2D and 3D figures - Functional relationships in Algebra; Slope, Linear, non-linear, quadratic, and exponential equations, graphs, tables, Systems of Equations, word problems. - Laws of exponents - Scientific Notation (standard form, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with SN and when to use each operation in word problems) - Concepts with the Number System (Whole Numbers, Integers, Rational, Irrational numbers), absolute value, operations with rational numbers, square and cube roots - Statistics concepts such as mean, median, and mode, scatter plots, line of best fit, and probabiliy of simple, compound, independent, dependent events and the counting principle. - One step to multi-step equations and their solutions Algebra and Geometry - Review of all listed above - Linear inequalities - Direct and Inverse Variation, Sets, Slope, Linear and Non-linear Equations, Functions, Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities, Integer and Rations Exponents, Sequences, Polynomials, Functional Transformations, Radical Expressions, Bivariate Statistics, and Matrices - Logic, Distance Formula, Midpoint Formula, Slopes of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines, Triangles, Exterior Angle Theorem, Congruence Transormations, Dilations, Symmetry, Congruent Triangle Theorems, Trigonomic Ratios I hope to see your child in the classroom soon. Warmly, Mrs. Holland
