Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 10
Intermediate Level
Hi there!

This is a 2-day-a-week 2 week long, 1:1 tutoring class. It is not a 4-week set, so classes must be booked within two weeks.

Classes are 50 minutes long. The learner will be given help focusing on reading and writing skills to get ready for the next grade level. We will read a mix of fiction and nonfiction texts and discuss the critical elements in each selection. Learners will practice completing questions similar to those on state standardized tests, including single-paragraph written responses and/or essays, depending on grade level expectations.

Skills practice will include elements of fiction during week one, as well as nonfiction in week two, with writing assignments included each week. I will assist with guiding students through the writing process, including finding and incorporating strong text evidence into their work, revising their writing, and finally editing for grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I will also help your child learn some basic formulas for writing analytical essays and constructed response writing. These tutoring sessions can also be tailored to fit the learner’s circumstances and needs.

These are set up as 2 sessions per week for 2 weeks. Parent communication at least 48 hours before the first session is required to help me plan for instruction and allow me to select appropriate reading material. Sharing information about your learner's background and needs helps me do a better job!

Through my 20-plus years of teaching experience, I have taken pride in my role as a writing coach. Developing warm relationships with my students is important, and I get great joy when former students visit or message me to brag about how well they are doing because of the writing skills they mastered in my classes.
