Intermediate - Advanced Level
Please note: Parents, please message me with background info about your child when you register. I plan classes to meet your child's needs, so please let me know your expectations. Please fill me in about your child's academic strengths, well as about areas that are a challenge. Thanks! In these private tutoring sessions meeting 2 times weekly for 45 minutes each session, students will receive help with reading and literary analysis, finding text evidence, writing, grammar, and punctuation, depending on students’ needs and parents’ requests. As we read, we discuss the text, including vocabulary and text analysis, and discuss higher-order thinking sorts of questions. I use a graphic organizer for essay writing, as well as shorter paragraph-length responses. Sometimes learners need grammar and sentence structure support, and/or guidance in organizing their ideas. I get to know the students, and we may joke around a bit during classes, but this easy-going approach helps foster your child’s confidence and willingness to work. Our discussions help spark curiosity. This practice is what builds mastery in language arts skills. If your child has school work that requires help, please share screenshots with me in advance via the communications tab; if the assignment is online work your child can always share their screen during class.
Learning Goals
The learner will gain practice in reading and analyzing various fiction and nonfiction texts.

I have been English department chair and have guided countless students to master the skill of writing cogent five-paragraph essays. I am a Teacher Consultant with the Greater New Orleans Writing Project and also received training through the Phillips Exeter Academy. Nurturing Approach:
Through my 20-plus years of teaching experience, I have taken pride in my ability to foster warm relationships with my students. I get great joy when former students visit or message me to brag about how well they are doing because of the writing skills they mastered in my classes. I strive to create a challenging yet enjoyable learning environment in my classes.
As a mother of Twice-Exceptional students (ADHD, Gifted, Autism spectrum), I understand the importance of meeting individual needs while providing engaging content. My own history with ADHD allows me to understand and empathize with students who struggle with executive function issues and fluctuating energy levels.
