Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Intermediate - Advanced Level
In these 50-minute, 1:1 tutoring sessions, students will be given help with reading and writing tailored to fit the learner’s circumstances and needs. Students will be able to share their assignments through screen sharing so we can work together. These sessions can focus on either specific assignments that the student needs help with or practice with language arts skills. I can assist with guiding students through the writing process, including finding and incorporating strong text evidence into their work, revising their writing, and finally editing for grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I have twenty-odd years of experience in the classroom, as well as one-to-one, and every year my learners' test scores improved significantly. Your child will learn some basic formulas for writing: -constructed response paragraphs -essays -academic writing of many types Your child will practice: - reading fiction and nonfiction texts - writing skills - sentence structure - grammar - punctuation - elements of fiction - figurative language - analyzing texts - writing essays ***Parent communication 48 hours prior to the first session is required to help plan for instruction. I need you to share your understanding of your child's academic needs so that I can tailor lessons accordingly. Please let me know your goals for this class. Sharing information helps me do a better job! Also, please note that my class policy allows for one missed class per semester, except when class occurs during the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the New Year in the U.S. (I usually don't schedule classes during those weeks, except at the parent's request.) This means that if your child is sick or if you or your child has an appointment and needs to miss a class, I'm happy to refund if you cancel 24 hours in advance. Since my income depends on our current schedule, I expect consistent attendance. If you take lots of vacations, and miss lots of classes. I will have to drop your student from my rolls. Thanks for your understanding! (Please note that I don't teach handwriting; I teach the writing process and reading comprehension.) Through my 20-plus years of teaching experience, I have taken pride in my role as a writing coach. Developing warm relationships with my students is important, and I get great joy when former students visit or message me to brag about how well they are doing because of the writing skills they mastered in my classes. Part of the learning process also involves chatting with your child in order to learn more about their likes, dislikes, strengths, etc. #confidence #academic
