As the author of the "Emotebook" and a freelance writer for over 20 years, I have relied on language arts skills as the building blocks of a happy career. As a masters level psychology graduate, I incorporate expertise in neuroscience and developing thinking skills that not only support English language arts, but also our broader daily lives. I also worked full-time as an associate editor for three years, which helped me gain real-world expertise in the nuances of English language arts and experience guiding authors of all levels. I am walking the language arts journey with my three children while homeschooling them, as well as with hundreds of other students in various grades. I also earned my TESOL certification to bridge the gap between cultures by teaching English as a second language to hundreds of international students. I look forward to helping you strengthen your language arts style!

Homework
Frequency: included
Feedback: included
Details: All exercises and activities are given and completed in class. However, some learners opt to complete the writing assignment after class. All writing projects that are submitted for review will be given feedback. Additionally, learners can use this weekly class as the basis of a full curriculum (please ask me for workbook recommendations to use as extension exercises for non-class school days; all workbook pages that are turned in through the classroom will receive teacher feedback).
Assessment
Frequency: included
Details: Learners who demonstrate consistent language competence, through their ability to explain aloud or write their thought processes related the various thinking skills, will be invited to level up to my more advanced class. Additionally, parents can request feedback on learner output during class to track progress according to individual learning goals.
This class has worked for many neurodiverse learners. The structured, well-paced, practice-heavy approach helps with ADHD. The variety of participation options aids those with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ASD or unique communication challenges.
Please keep a pencil and paper available for in-class writing exercises.
Learners can purchase workbooks to follow the classwork or to have additional extension activities if needed.
Please ask me for a free PDF pretest if you are interested in gauging your learner's fit with this class level before signing up.

I value your partnership in helping your learner grow. Although I keep the classwork contained within the Outschool classroom for simplicity, you can request a copy of the chatbox responses that your learner gives in class to track progress when it comes to written output.

You are also welcome to purchase the workbooks that I use in class if you need a hard copy of your learner's work for tracking progress, or if you would like to preview the reading passages.

Please advise me if you would like to extend or enhance this class by purchasing workbooks with additional activities.

As always, please contact me if there is a way that I can help your individual learner better connect with the class content. I count on your partnership to help your learner advance and fill in gaps through this class, and will work with you in any way that I can to make this happen.
Learners will not need to use any outside websites or apps. All activities are contained in the zoom classroom, and use the chatbox and annotation tools on a screen-shared presentation for classwork.
