US Grade 1
Welcome to our fully comprehensive 1st grade English-Language Arts (ELA) course! Designed to cover all the essentials, this course provides a strong foundation in reading, writing, spelling, and grammar. Our engaging and interactive lessons are perfect for young learners, fostering a love for language while developing critical skills. This course uses Scholastic Hello Reader Level 1 books. The Level 1 books are approximately Kindergarten to First Grade Level. (Guided Reading Level: C-J; Lexile Level: 100L-400L). The Level 1 Hello Readers contain simple words and short sentences for new readers. Learners will encounter frequently used words (sight words) and practice sounding out simple sentences. We will also focus on phonics, grammar, language arts, literacy skills and writing skills. (Students will not need their own copy of the book. We will read together in class.) Our teaching style is student-centered, interactive and encouraging. This course uses a combination of colorful and animated slides to enhance visual learning and keep students engaged, as well as short video clips, interactive games and activities, and group discussions to encourage participation and help students articulate their thoughts. ~*What Will Be Taught?*~ In this course, students will learn: -Reading: Storytime with classic and contemporary children's books, followed by comprehension activities. Phonics, sight words, comprehension strategies, and reading fluency. -Writing: Fun writing prompts and exercises to spark creativity and practice proper sentence formation. Sentence structure, creative writing, and basic punctuation. -Spelling: Interactive spelling games and activities to reinforce learning. Spelling words, high-frequency words, word families, and spelling rules. -Grammar: Engaging activities to identify and use nouns, verbs, adjectives, and more. Parts of speech, simple sentence construction, and proper grammar usage. Any homework given will be on an as-needed basis or by request.
