US Grade 2 - 5
In each lesson, we will learn fun facts about each state. We will start out each class introducing the state. Learners will fill out a worksheet provided each week to include: State Bird, Nickname, Tree, Flower, Mammal, Fish, and Insect!! We will find and fill out the State Capital, State Flag, where in the United States it is located, and any other fun facts! Learners can share if they live in the state of the day or if they have visited. They will have the opportunity to print a copy of a blank map that will be uploaded to the classroom. We will color in and fill in each state as we work on it, as well as fill in the information mentioned above. Week 1: Alabama & Alaska, Arizona & Arkansas Week 2: California & Colorado & Connecticut & Delaware Week 3: Florida & Georgia & Hawaii & Idaho Week 4: Illinois & Indiana & Iowa & Kansas Week 5: Kentucky & Louisiana & Maine & Maryland Week 6: Massachusetts & Michigan & Minnesota & Mississippi Week 7: Missouri & Montana & Nebraska & Nevada Week 8: New Hampshire & New Jersey & New Mexico & New York Week 9: North Carolina & North Dakota & Ohio & Oklahoma Week 10: Oregon & Pennsylvania & Rhode Island & South Carolina Week 11: South Dakota & Tennessee & Texas & Utah Week 12: Vermont & Virginia & Washington & West Virginia Week 13: Wisconsin & Wyoming & Washington D.C. Week 14: Wrap up any projects and share what we have learned. Mrs. V will post the worksheets each week. Each week will also include a link to a video to extend the learning and will have a related classroom discussion question. Each week learners will share which state they were most interested in and why using the classroom chat feature guided by Mrs. V. Each learner will have the opportunity to find other information about any of the states for that week and share with the class. Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly in the Outschool classroom/private learner's messaging, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner. Students will post their drawings in the classroom and each classmate will interact with each other and comment on the drawing that was uploaded. At the end of each week, learners will take a kahoot quiz about facts that we learned about the states of that week. It will be interactive and fun way to share our knowledge with each other. Also, each learner will upload a video each week about their favorite states and fact of that week and anything they may like to present. Classmates will watch the videos and respond accordingly. Students will need the printouts uploaded by the teacher in the classroom. Some weeks may require glue or glue stick, crayons or colored pencils. There will be ample time provided in the classroom chat to inform parents and learners what will be required for the following week. ***This is a FLEX course and students can request a time extension if needed. Courses are not graded unless requested. If grades are needed, please let me know upon enrollment or prior to the course beginning to arrange submission of work for grading/feedback.** Please reach out to me if there is a scheduling conflict or payment assistance is needed. OutSchool and Mrs. V are very aware of the different needs of our families.
