Session 1 - Butterfly Life Cycle - Teacher and students will introduce themselves. - Teacher will lead a brainstorming session to activate prior knowledge about the butterfly cycle. - Teacher will give a mini lesson on the different parts of the butterfly life cycle. - Students will watch a brief video about the a butterfly's life cycle. - Teacher will lead students in creating the different stages of the butterfly cycle out of edible materials. Session 2 - Cookie: Sink or Float - Teacher will quickly greet all students. - Teacher will lead a brainstorming session to activate prior knowledge about buoyancy. - Teacher will give a mini lesson on buoyancy and density. - Students will watch a brief video about the - Teacher will lead students in the sink or float experiment. Session 3 - Exploring our Tongue - Teacher will quickly greet all students. - Teacher will lead a brainstorming session to activate prior knowledge about the tongue/taste. - Teacher will give a mini lesson on the tongue and taste buds. - Students will watch a brief video about taste. - Teacher will lead students in a taste exploration.

Parental Guidance
In this class, we will be using edible materials (candies, cookies, pudding, etc.) to participate in science activities. Students will be encouraged to taste or eat the science creations. Please read the supply list carefully and verify that your learner is not lactose intolerant or allergic to any of the ingredients. Feel free to substitute any supplies for similar ones that are suitable for your learner.
Warning: Please provide your learner with plastic utensils and paper plates to avoid the danger of using glass or sharp items.

For all 3 Sessions: -Pencil -Markers/Crayons -Lab Sheet (download and print) Session 1 - Butterfly Cycle 6 to 8 small white marshmallows 3 small pretzels 1 Oreo cookie 1 tootsie roll 2 gummy worms 3 or 4 sheets of paper towels (for messes) Wet wipes (for messes) Session 2 - Cookie: Sink or Float 1 Oreo cookie 1 Nila Wafer 1 Chocolate Chip Cookie 1 Animal Cracker 1/2 Cup of Milk in a clear plastic cup 3 or 4 sheets of paper towels (for messes) Wet wipes (for messes) Session 3 - Exploring our Tongue 1 glass of water 1 hand-held mirror 1 sour gummy worm or lemon slice 1 potato chip 1 coffee bean or very strong dark chocolate 1 teaspoon of sugar Crayons or color pencils 3 or 4 sheets of paper towels (for messes) Wet wipes (for messes)

Hello! Nice to meet you! I am Ilene. I love all subjects, but my passion is everything related to Language Arts. I am excited to teach all my students about the wonderful world of the written word. We are going to travel through the pages of a book to learn about the real world and the fantastic world of fictional stories. I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Florida International University and I am certified in Elementary Education and hold an Endorsement in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) (K-12). I have been an elementary school teacher for 15 years and have taught Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, Science, STEM, ESOL and even Spanish! Learning is a journey and everyone's path is different, but I believe that meaningful, fun, interactive lessons can empower students to be lifelong learners and readers.
