US Grade 3 - 5
This will be a 3-day camp. On day one, students will learn about plate tectonics. We will be using food to represent the earth and its "plates," to understand how they move and how they effect the earth. On day two, students will learn about earthquakes. We will discuss what connection they have to plate tectonics, the different types, and how they are measured. Once again, we will be using food for this demonstration. On day three, students will learn about volcanoes and their connection to the other two topics. I will demonstrate an edible volcano. Students are welcome to do the experiment along with me, or do it later, if they wish. Students are encouraged, but not required to participate in class discussions and experiments. **Please note that supplies are optional. **Also note that these experiments could get messy, so I recommend putting down newspaper or paper towel under your child's work space, for easier clean up. *Class times given is approximate and can vary, depending on the amount of student interaction*

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Christine and I am a Colorado native. I have two awesome sons, who are 11 and 21. I love to travel, explore, learn and teach about nature! I have been to all 50 US states, about 22 countries and I can't wait to finally get to see the rest of the world!!
I have an Associate of Science, in geology, and a Bachelors in geography and environmental studies from the University of Colorado.
I have taught science, in a variety of settings, over the past 18 years. During that time, I also worked as a tour guide at a local commercial cave! Geology rocks isn't just a catchy pun, it's a passion! I teach a variety of geography and geology-related classes. My classes combine lots of interaction with hands-on learning. I find that most people retain more information through doing something than just reading about it.
