Class Experience

Preschool through early elementary school aged children will explore a variety of exciting themes and practice early learning skills as we practice making new friends and working together. This class will be your young learner's daily dose of fun, with a prefect side-helping of essential skill-building.

Learners will be introduced to each class with our daily welcome song, followed by an assortment of gross motor activities to help get our wiggles out. The movements can help calm any nerves your child may have as well as excite them for the class. Next, children will dive into the weekly theme (listed below) through read-aloud stories, pictures, journaling, song and dance, conversation and hands-on activities with arts and crafts. Some classes will also engage in social-emotional learning as we talk about our own feelings and emotions. Children will engage in social skills through questions and answers about the weekly topic and sharing what they already know. We will also introduce children to group games, scissor skills, making patterns, and becoming good listeners through routine and play learning. At the end of each class, children can participate in our goodbye song, hopefully leaving them with anticipation for another fun day with friends!

This is an introductory course specially created for Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten (PreK) students. The subject matter will be adapted to suit their educational and developmental level. Students will learn through a variety of approaches, such as read aloud selections, informative slides and graphics, drawing, building and sculpting, movement activities, short video clips, interactive games, discussion, repetition, dramatic play and more.

**PARENTS / CAREGIVERS: Because this class is designed for Outschool's earliest learners, I strongly encourage you to remain with your child during our session. Outschool policy requires that you keep your face off-camera as much as possible, but you should plan to remain close by your child during class. It makes a tremendous difference at this age to know that a parent is nearby to help with understanding directions, with emotional confidence, understanding how to ask questions or answer questions, getting supplies that are needed, etc. If you cannot remain with your child during this class, please reach out so that we can be sure it is a good fit for your particular child's temperament and abilities.**

This is an ongoing class that meets every week, but you can jump in (or out) any time you want! We can't wait to meet you!!

Participation in movement activities is not required. Please contact the teacher with any concerns. Scissor skills will sometimes be introduced and practiced in class. Please provide supervision if needed (per parental discretion). All activities will be age-appropriate in their nature and execution. Supply List
**Access to a color printed is required for this class. Printed materials will be provided before each class. Not every class will need printed materials, but please check before the beginning of each class.

Each day, we will use some or all of the following:
Pencils
Paper
Construction paper
Scissors (please use children’s safety scissors)
Glue (I like to have both liquid glue and a glue stick because sometimes one is better than the other for certain crafts)
Tape (regular clear tape)
Markers/Crayons/Colored Pencils

Additional supplies will be posted prior to each class, but are usually common household items. Examples of additional supplies include tempera paint, paintbrushes, watercolor paint, toilet paper tubes, paper plates, brown paper lunch bags, paint, tissue paper, feathers, empty tissue boxes, popsicle sticks, etc. Your local variety store carries an assortment of these additional supplies, including plastic storage containers for easy organization. Shiny Happy Kids teachers have been working with students ages 3-18 in a variety of settings, from art schools and STEAM labs to libraries, summer camps, forest school, and even RPG game tables. One thing we all have in common is a dedication to creating safe, positive, inclusive spaces and experiences where kids can connect, experiment, be challenged, share their passions, and just be their wonderful selves. We want you to SHINE!

From Miss Ashley: I have always loved to work with young children! Ever since I was a kid, I was very creative in coming up with unique ways of expressing myself. That uniqueness carried over into my adult life, and that is what brings me here today! I love being a part of a child’s yearn to learn and I believe that learning is always fun. I’m a mom to two amazing kiddos, both currently in elementary school. Before having my kids, I had 7 years experience in working with children primary-aged through elementary school. I was an assistant Pre-K teacher followed by working at various summer camps through my local Parks & Recreation department. I’ve worn many hats throughout life but my favorite one is being a mom. I love my wonderful husband, my amazing kiddos, my 3 crazy cats, sewing and gardening.
