Let's share our favorite things together! This is an introductory course designed especially for our young learners age 4-7. Each week will have a special theme to help students narrow down their choices for show and tell. Learners are encouraged to bring 3-4 items each week that they want to share with the group. Each child will have a turn to tell us a few things about their show-and-tell items. Once they have shared, we will ask the other students to give feedback in the form of questions and comments before moving on to the next child. The teacher will also follow up with questions and observations that help the presenter to feel seen and appreciated. In addition to our sharing time, we will play a light-hearted game together if time allows. These games will always be developmentally appropriate and will be cooperative for the most part. This class is not just about showing off our cool stuff and making new friends. It is a safe, inclusive space to grow and practice our developing social skills, classroom or group learning skills, communication and presentation skills, and more. We will practice: *taking turns *public speaking *following directions *asking for help *asking questions related to the topic *giving positive feedback to our peers *dealing with frustration and impatience *teamwork and emerging friendship skills *kindness and empathy *building confidence We're excited to get to know each student, including what gets them excited. We're big fans of collections, special objects, special interests, and fandoms of any kind. We might even share a few special things of our own! We are gentle (albeit enthusiastic) teachers. We welcome all types of learners, and are open to any feedback or communication with parents and caregivers. We want learning to be an AWESOME experience for all of our students. To this end, we ask you to remember that this age group has a range of developmental skills, and often needs a little more support on both sides of the screen than older students. Please remain nearby your child during class, in case they need social or emotional support, help understanding or navigating instructions, or technical assistance. This makes a huge difference in the quality of their classroom experience, especially for our youngest learners.
Learning Goals

Parental Guidance

Please help your child to select items that you think would be a good fit for the class. Conversation may be steered gently away from controversial topics (such as guns or violence, for example).
Regarding supplies and activities:
All physical activities are age and developmentally-appropriate. No physical activities are ever required, and the teacher will provide alternatives methods of participation whenever needed, at the parent's discretion.
Playdough MAY contain wheat or gluten and families should be sure to avoid it in case of allergies. A gluten-free recipe and options are available upon request.)
Supply List
Bring your show-and-tell items and think of 2-3 things you would like to share about them. Student may also be requested to bring some of the following on a week-by-week basis (posted as an update weekly in the classroom posts): Creative "maker" supplies may be requested, such as drawing supplies, paper, blocks, magnetic building blocks, snap-together construction blocks, modeling clay or play dough, dice, or other common household items. One thing we all have in common is a dedication to creating safe, positive, inclusive spaces and experiences where kids can connect, experiment, be challenged, share their passions, and just be their wonderful selves. We want you to SHINE!
From Miss Ashley: I have always loved to work with young children! Ever since I was a kid, I was very creative in coming up with unique ways of expressing myself. That uniqueness carried over into my adult life, and that is what brings me here today! I love being a part of a child’s yearn to learn and I believe that learning is always fun. I’m a mom to two amazing kiddos, both currently in elementary school. Before having my kids, I had 7 years experience in working with children primary-aged through elementary school. I was an assistant Pre-K teacher followed by working at various summer camps through my local Parks & Recreation department. I’ve worn many hats throughout life but my favorite one is being a mom. I love my wonderful husband, my amazing kiddos, my 3 crazy cats, sewing and gardening.
