Title: Basic Improv for Kids Time: 90 minutes Availability: 4 Weeks This experience is SUPER easy for people to drop in and out of when they can make it. Each week we'll review the core principles of Basic Improvisation and then play a bunch of Improv games to practice and hone improv skills. We will play games that focus on individuals, small groups, and the whole group. I'll be the one driving the games, providing tips and feedback, and helping the students build their improv skills. This entire time is fully interactive, so come prepared to play! No experience or prior knowledge required or needed! Let's have some laughs!
Learning Goals
Our team members will leave here with a foundational understanding of the core tenets of improvisation, and will practice putting these tenets into action through improv games, collective feedback, and more.
Syllabus
4 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
The Improv Mindset
What is improvisation? There are some core basic tenets that all improvisors use, regardless if they are in a performance, a work setting, or a classroom setting. And it doesn't always have to be funny (although, things usually are better when they're funny). Those tenets make up "The Improv Mindset." Including, but not limited to:
-"yes...and..."
-active listening
-empathy
-building up vs tearing down
We will discuss these tenets and play some improv games to practice The Improv Mindset.

Lesson 2:
Being In The Moment
After the basic tenets are established, the next step is about being "present." That means, not thinking ahead about what you want to do/say, but to react in the moment. "Being In The Moment" includes:
-active listening
-spontaneity
-trust
We will discuss these tenets, along with The Improv Mindset, and play some improv games to practice "Being In The Moment."

Lesson 3:
C.R.O.W.
Every improv scene, whether it's with a solo-performance or a group of twenty, has to have C.R.O.W., which stands for:
-Character
-Relationship
-Objective
-Where
We will discuss C.R.O.W. and how to build them into a scene to make them more engaging for the audience. We will play improv games, and also integrate tenets of "The Improv Mindset" and "Being In The Moment."

Lesson 4:
The World's Greatest Teacher
No, it's not me... but thanks for thinking of me.
The world's greatest teacher is: failure.
This lesson is all about failure... and how to embrace it. Improv is done on the spot and, well it shouldn't be surprising to find out that, it doesn't always go well. Sometimes you get big laughs and reactions. Other times... groans or silence.
So what role does "failure" play in improv? Honestly: it's probably the most important, but the hardest to master handling. Then: we put it all together.
