US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Students will learn about using words to decode CVC words. Students will learn to use word families (for example, at, ag, an, ap, am, ab, ad, et, en, eg, ed, ig, ip, in, it, ix, im, og, ot, op, ob, ug, un, ut, and ub) to create CVC words. The class structure: 1. A short introduction to assess student background knowledge. 2. Canva presentation to introduce the topic and encourage discussion about CVC words as well as consonants and vowels. 3. Student and the teacher will fill in a word mat as the students and teacher decode CVC words and create a sentence. 4. Students will be able to apply their newly acquired decoding skills while playing a game. My teaching style is to ask thought-provoking questions to help build students' curiosity. I also like to incorporate multiple intelligences in each lesson, such as visual and auditory learning as well as game-based learning and music. This is an introductory course, students will only need to know consonant and vowel letter sounds, but this is not a requirement. Students will have support from the teacher if they do not know all 26 letter sounds.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their decoding skills of consonant vowel consonant words. Students will also improve their understanding of short vowel sounds.
