Students will learn about different types of owls, what they eat, where they live, fun owl facts, what an owl pellet is, and why scientists study them. We will go into more detail about what they eat by discussing food chains, predator/prey relationships, and how an owls digestive system works. I am a biology teacher, an avid birdwatcher, and a bird owner. Owl pellet dissection is part of one of my units and one of my students favorite labs! I often hear and see a barred owl that lives in the woods next to my house. It is very exciting to witness these majestic creatures in real-life, although not so exciting for my pet chickens!
