Class Experience
It doesn't matter what subject you're studying, we can always find ways to make it more interesting, engaging, personalized, and advanced. In this class, you bring the topic you're working on and together we will tailor activities to do together that will make the content more meaningful and help you remember for the long term. My style is relaxed, constructivist, engaging, socratic seminar, inquisitive, and creative. Our first lesson will be getting to know the student to build rapport, getting to know the content they are learning about, and seeing how we can combine the two with higher order thinking skills. Learning to ask questions of differing levels of complexity instead of always answering questions as a student is an important skill that we will imbed into every session. Examples: -Learning geography can be rote and uninteresting. Let's make it interesting by adding elements of human and cultural geography. Who drew the borders to the African countries? What implications can we see due to this? -Learning about kinetic energy in science? Let's make it about baseball or archery, or some other topic of interest for your learner. -Having trouble getting through the tediousness of learning fractions or slope? Let's use them to solve real life problems, or to decorate their room. -Writing a paper sounds like a snooze fest? That's okay! Let's discover easy ways to reduce the stress it causes and make those writing assignments a breeze.
Learning Goals
Learners can see that boring topics don't always have to stay boring, it just depends on how we are engaging with them.
Learners who are more engaged learn more for the long term.
