Homework
1-2 hours per week. I will provide an after-class Homework package to extend and reinforce class learning. It will be in PDF format ready to print! This package will be tailored specifically to your learners needs. It is ESSENTIAL to do a little Phonics work each day in order to achieve progress! All students benefit from this review and for dyslexic students, it is absolutely essential to have constant review and practice!
Assessment
The first class will consist of an Assessment (Phonemic Awareness, reading, spelling etc)- this is very important to determine where your learner is struggling and where we will begin. Also, as OG follows a prescriptive and diagnostic approach, I am continually monitoring and assessing my learners needs and adapting as required.

Class Experience

Is your little learner ready to embark on their journey towards literacy? Are they ready to learn the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they spell? Or, do you have a learner diagnosed with dyslexia or dysgraphia who is struggling to read/write? Or perhaps your child is able to read, but having difficulty spelling/writing? I have been a Private Tutor for 20 years focusing on Systematic & Explicit Phonics Instruction, Early Literacy and Dyslexia/ Reading Intervention . I am a Certified Orton-Gillingham Tutor (A-OGA) and I have received 80-hours of Structured Literacy training through the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). I would be honored to help your child overcome any hurdles and develop a love of reading!

⭐⭐It is HIGHLY recommended that your learner take 2 classes per week - the Orton-Gillingham approach recommends a MINIMUM of 2 sessions per week to be effective.⭐⭐

⭐If you don't see a time that works for you, please contact me and I may be able to accommodate!⭐

💜The Orton-Gillingham approach/Structured Literacy is ESSENTIAL for Dyslexic learners but HIGHLY beneficial for all students learning to read & spell!

💜I offer a FULL PHONICS/LITERACY CURRICULUM - from Pre-Reader to Advanced Phonics/Morphology/SWI, following an EXPLICIT and SYSTEMATIC scope & sequence! I modify my scope and sequence for each student to best address their needs.

💜I have been trained in both the Orton-Gillingham approach (A/OGA) as well as Science of Reading/Structured Literacy (IDA) best practices and have been following these approaches for over 16 years. These approaches are not only essential for learners with dyslexia & dysgraphia, but incredibly helpful to all students learning (or struggling) to read and spell!

💜When you register your learner for this class please let me know what she/he needs help with. If you are unsure of what is causing their inability to move forward - don't worry, I have several Assessments to determine where your child is struggling. Any background information/testing etc that you can provide will be helpful.

💜I will do several Phonics/Spelling Assessments & Phonemic Awareness Assessments as part of our first class together to determine exactly where your learner is struggling.

💜I provide a Homework Packet (in PDF format) specifically tailored to your learners needs after each class to extend & reinforce what we have worked on in class. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your child does the Homework as research tells us that children learning to read/spell should do phonics work each day. It is absolutely essential that children with Dyslexia have constant review and practice opportunities when learning new skills. There must be commitment to doing this work. It is provided in a simple click and print PDF format!

💜There will be ongoing communication between parent and teacher - together we will help your learner succeed and build confidence in their reading, writing & spelling abilities! And most importantly, to develop a LOVE of reading!!

My teaching is aligned with Science of Reading (SOR) best practices. Science of Reading is not a specific program or curriculum, but rather an approach comprised of best practices from an immense body of research on how children learn to read. It suggests a systematic and explicit approach to phonics - moving from simple to more complex concepts with lots of review and practice.

VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!!
CANCELLATION POLICY: If a student is more than 10 minutes late, it will be considered a missed class and the class is not eligible for a refund as per Outschool Policy. If a student needs to cancel class, please let me know before Sunday of the week that class needs to be cancelled, I then will cancel that week's class and Outschool will not charge you for that class. Regarding Refunds for cancellations after Outschool has charged for that week's class, exceptions MAY be made in true EMERGENCY situations (ie-Power Outage/Death in Family/Severe Sudden Illness etc). One of the great benefits of Orton-Gillingham tutoring is that it is prescriptive and individualized - this requires that I spend a significant amount of time outside of class assessing progress, designing/planning the lesson as well as creating individualized homework packets. I also have a long Waiting-List of students wanting slots/tutoring and your Learners slot is held for him/her. Of course, if I need to cancel a class due to an emergency I will provide a Full Refund immediately. I appreciate that you value my time and will adhere to/accept my cancellation policies!😊
Learning Goals
As this is a Private Tutoring session, each class will be tailored specifically to each students needs.
