In this engaging 8-week course, learners will master challenging spelling patterns as well as strengthen reading comprehension and language arts skills.
Class experience
This class is designed for advanced second grade and third grade level students. It is divided into 4 sessions, each lasting 8 weeks. We will target challenging spelling patterns such as diphthongs, homophones, contractions, and easily misspelled words. We will strengthen reading comprehension skills such as locating information in text, using non-fiction text features, inferring, predicting, sequencing, evaluating, and more to truly understand what is read. Students will master the oi, ou, au, alk, final le, and aw spelling patterns along with suffixes -ed and -ing, nine sets of homophones, and twelve common contractions. They will be able to locate information in text, make inferences based on prior knowledge and textual content, identify cause and effect relationships, main idea and supporting details, point of view, fact and opinion, understand figures of speech, and author's purpose.
I am an experienced and licensed elementary teacher. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I love helping kids learn to read and write well! Your kiddos will be in good hands, I promise!
Homework Offered
Students will be asked to complete a spelling page and a language arts page each night.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
