Students will learn spelling rules to increase their spelling confidence! Class is taught in a multi-sensory format, based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. Helpful for struggling spellers and dyslexic learners.

Learn spelling rules that are very reliable and can be applied to many words. This will help you make more sense of spelling and give you more control over spelling words. Our class is engaging and encouraging!

Learners will be introduced to the 3 sounds that the suffix -ed makes so that they can confidently spell past tense words with the suffix -ed. 

The Suffix -ed

The Doubling Rules helps learners decide when a letter needs to be doubled in a word before a suffix is added to it. For example, running, drummer, and funny have double consonants, but not snowed, gladly, and sadness.

Learners will learn when to drop the "e" or keep the "e" in a silent-e word when adding a suffix to it as in the words, priceless, smiling, driving, storage, hopeful, and icy. 

Silent-e Rule

Learners will learn when to keep the "y" or change the "y" to an "i" when adding a suffix to a word that ends in "y". Words taught in class include copied, happiness, playful, payment, babies, trying, silliest. 

Y-Rule

Learners will review spelling words with the suffix -ed, the Doubling Rule, the Silent-e Rule, and the Y-Rule.
