Class Experience

This class will meet 12 times, to allow your child to become comfortable with speaking in front of others.

Class 1 - Each learner will pick their favorite cartoon character, and pretend to be them by saying a few things that their character might say. We will talk about how our voice and our movement can make stories more interesting.

Class 2 - We will continue our discussion of voice and movement by practicing what different characters would look and sound like.

Class 3 - Each learner will be asked to remember a story they have been told, and then retell it to us.

Class 4 - We will continue working on our stories from our last class by adding more details to make them longer.

Class 5 - Still working on our Class 3 stories, we will tell them again, using different voices for each character.

Class 6 - Learners will be encouraged to bring their favorite toy or stuffed animal to class and tell us all a story about it. Other learners will be encouraged to ask them questions. We will practice answering others' questions using the voice we have given to our toy/stuffed animal.

Class 7 - In this class we will begin talking about mannerisms, and about how adding them to the characters in their stories will make them more interesting and entertaining.

Class 8 - We will begin practicing mannerisms and attempt to integrate them into our stories.

Class 9 - In this class we will begin adding both voices AND mannerisms into our storytelling.

Class 10 - In this class, I will start telling a story with a few descriptive sentences and characters, using character voices and mannerisms. Then, each learner will take turns adding a little bit more to the story, copying the same voices and mannerisms. At the end of class, I will wrap up the story.

Class 11 - We will continue with our practice of character voices and mannerisms in the same way as in our previous class.

Class 12 - To wrap up the class, each learner will perform a couple lines of character speech, using a unique voice and mannerism. Each of the other students will try to copy their example.
Learning Goals
This class will focus first and foremost on putting the learners at ease so that they are comfortable speaking in front of others. Secondarily, we will work on their speaking and storytelling skills so that they are more effective.
