This class introduces students to a reading comprehension skills strategy that helps them develop an understanding for identifying the main idea and supporting details. During the lesson the students will be able to identify key skills in finding the meaning of the main idea with supporting details. The students will develops skills in reading comprehension and determine the main idea of a text to explain how it is supported by key details to summarize the text with evidence.
As an elementary classroom teacher, teaching the students how to implement reading strategies is key to their success in reading comprehension.Helping students strengthen their skills in applying a specific strategy to annotate, identify the information needed for understanding ,and growing ideas about their reading. I have seen students achieve success and growth in the area of reading comprehension while implementing this reading comprehension strategy.
