Summer Camp: Blender 3D Modeling and Animation for Game Design Level 2
Class experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Blender 3D Modeling and Animation Level 2 In this 10 lesson project-based course, students will learn various techniques to model, render, and animate in the 3D software blender. Our lessons teach fundamental skills to use 3D software such as modeling, texturing, UV unwrapping, texture painting, rigging, and animation. Students will learn to make their very own character that can be implemented into common 3D game engines or used in their own personal animations or artworks. Students will...
10 lessons//2 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Basic concept reviewAn introduction to what Blender is and how it can be used. All basic controls, menus, and tools are reviewed to ensure students are comfortable and prepared for the intermediate concepts covered in future lessons.Lesson 2Character ModelingStudents will implement their knowledge of modeling techniques and modifiers to model a humanoid character that will be improved upon throughout the course. Discussion will be held on how good topology techniques can make animation easier.Lesson 3UV MappingStudents what a UV map is and how it relates to their models. Various techniques to unwrap a model's UVs are explored to prepare their characters for texturing. Including marking seams as well as utilizing blender’s automatic features.Lesson 4TexturingStudents will learn about how to apply textures to their model to create captivating appearances. As well as explore how procedural materials are created for more dynamic 3D appearances.Lesson 5Texture PaintingA fun way to design the textures of models is simply to paint directly onto it! Students will learn how to use texture painting and its accompanying tools.Week 2Lesson 6Rigid RiggingRigging is the process of connecting 3D objects to easily prepare them for advanced animation. In this lesson students will learn how to add armature to multiple objects in a treasure chest project. This includes learning how to add and manipulate bones as well as how pose mode works.Lesson 7Deform RiggingStudents will now learn how to create a rig that can deform a mesh. The project will add an armature to their character so that their limbs can correctly move about. Students will also learn about weights and how they relate to models and their armature. Both automatic weights and weight painting techniques are explored.Lesson 8AnimationThe basics of animations are explored in this lesson. From how to utilize the armature, how a timeline and dope sheets work, to exporting and saving multiple different animations. The project is to create a walk cycle.Lesson 9ReviewAll previously taught concepts are reviewed, with special attention given to topics students wish to apply to their own final projects.Lesson 10Final ProjectThe students will create their own 3D applying what they have learned throughout the class. Upon completion, the projects are presented by their creators.
This class is taught in English.

Dear Parents, In this 10 lesson class, your students will learn how to create 3D Modeling and Animation using Blender. They will also learn how to export their models into Roblox. Blender 3D is an open-source software which can be downloaded for FREE. There is no need to create an account, register or share any personal information in order to use it. However, we highly recommend you to register an account at https://id.blender.org/register/. This step allows students to share their projects with instructors if they need help, and also show off their creations to others.
Students need to download the Blender from https://www.blender.org/
