In this class, students will delve into C++ programming through a structured 10-class curriculum designed to build their coding skills progressively. They will start with the basics of C++ such as comments, variables, data types, and arithmetic operators, and create a Mad-Libs style game to apply these concepts. As the weeks progress, students will explore more advanced topics like logic gates, looping, functions, arrays, vectors, and searching and sorting algorithms, each accompanied by practical projects such as a random-number guessing game, a calculator, a Sudoku puzzle, and a leaderboard program. In the latter part of the course, students will learn about pointers, strings, C-strings, and object-oriented programming, creating projects like a name separator program and an Olympic athlete stat page. The final weeks will focus on reviewing all concepts and working on a comprehensive final project, which students will present to showcase their understanding and creativity. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on creating reusable, well-structured code and developing problem-solving skills. For a week to week program, check out the syllabus.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the fundamentals of C++ programming, including variables, data types, loops, functions, arrays, and object-oriented programming through hands-on projects.
Syllabus
10 Lessons
over 10 WeeksLesson 1:
C++ Basics
Comments, Identifiers/Variables, Data Types, String Concatenation, Arithmetic Operators, Cin/Cout and C++ Program Formatting
Make a program that runs a Mad-Libs style game, taking inputs and using them in a story
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Logic Gates and Looping
Project: Make a Random-Number Guessing Game, with a reusable menu and error-checking
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Functions
Project: Make a calculator that uses functions to return a solution. Make sure to include all four basic operators in a ‘main’ function that contains a menu using a Switch statement, return statements to return a value, parameters that take the two inputs, and the statements to do the math. Finally, make the program reusable
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Arrays and Vectors
Project: Make a Sudoku Puzzle using Two-Dimensional Arrays. Include a menu to enter a number, remove a number, or restart the game. Make sure to prevent any inputs on cells that were initialized with a number, and make the program reusable

Parental Guidance
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Project-based C++ program. In this online live course, students will learn the most popular programming language for software engineering, data science, machine learning and AI. All lessons are project based and each lesson contains one fun project. All students will be asked to finish a final project with their own ideas which will be presented on the last day. There will be some quizzes for students to finish at home.
Please read through this guidance before you enroll your children to our C++ class. To get started, please set up an account with https://replit.com , which we will be using both in and out of class for this course.
Replit.com provides users with a hosted environment to practice coding and to build and deploy software and web servers, made available through our Service. (https://replit.com/site/terms)
Unless you are a Teams for Education student user, when you create an account with us, you represent and warrant that you are above the age of 13, and that the information you provide us is accurate, complete, and current at all times.
