Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Are you ready to meet the ultimate girl squad? Join our summer camp and get ready to learn about some of the most fearless, game-changing, and inspiring women who ever walked the earth! From Frida Kahlo to Corrie ten Boom, from Marie Curie to Maya Angelou, we'll take a deep dive into the lives and accomplishments of women who shattered stereotypes, challenged the status quo, and left their mark on history.

But this isn't your average #academic history class! We'll be bringing these ladies to life with interactive games, group discussions, and even some cool crafts. Who knows, you might even discover your own inner trailblazer along the way.

So if you're ready to celebrate girl power, join us and get ready to be inspired!

Each class we'll discuss the childhood, education, hobbies, family life, and life accomplishments of one woman. Throughout the lesson students can interact on Nearpod through memory games, drawing challenges, quiz games, word searches, and short answer questions. Then we'll discuss the question “How did this woman change her community and the world?”

Nearpod is a free interactive educational program that I use to keep students entertained and engaged the entire class. It also allows me to provide students with instant feedback on their work. More information will be provided about how to access Nearpod when you sign up for the class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Social Studies/History
I am a certified Social Studies teacher in both Utah and North Carolina. In my training and experience teaching in the classroom and virtually I have found that the best way to approach sensitive topics is to address them explicitly and have an open conversation with my students. We discuss the mindset of historical societies, the moral implications of their actions, how it affects us to today, and why it can be difficult to talk about these subjects at times. All discussions will be age appropriate.

I make it clear to my students that they are always welcome to meet with me individually if they are bothered by any of these discussions. I also ask them, and the parents to contact me if they are concerned with my class content or delivery. These topics can be difficult to navigate and I am always trying to improve!
