Flex Sports Broadcasting & Podcasting - Learn the How To's 8 to 12 Years Old!
Class experience
This Flex Course will examine the wide range of career opportunities in sports broadcasting and sports podcasting. The main theme of our course will be sports, but we will also be looking at different careers in radio, broadcasting, and podcasting. Also, our class will provide the tools to publish our very own Sports Podcast (with parent approval and permission). Our class lessons will also look at the process for writing a podcast, finding topics, and creating a sports broadcast and podcast....
Students taking the sports podcasting and broadcasting class will learn a wide range of skills. Students will learn about different sports podcast themes, developing/creating a show, and how to publish. Public communication and speaking skills will be examine as well (delivery, tone, pitch, volume). This class will also provide skills in writing specifically to writing a podcast show (but some of the skills can be used for writing papers). The main topics focus on public speaking in the recording podcast format, technology for recording and publishing a podcast, creating a podcast, and publishing a podcast.
Homework Offered
Weekly discussion questions and topics. Weekly learning activities to assist with the different topics examined in creating, recording, and publishing a sports podcast.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Informal and formal assessment from the weekly discussion questions, providing feedback on weekly learning activities. Formal assessment on the published sports podcast and providing feedback on the finalized recording. If students are interested more in the sports broadcasting than students will have the ability to record a broadcast and Mr. Gullett will listen and provide feedback along with a wide range of examples to model from.Grades Offered
Technology - Computer, IPad/Tablet, IPhone or Smart Phone. Free podcasting software include Audacity (free for PC or Mac). If you have Mac's or IPad or IPhone then GarageBand is on these devices. Website Podcasting Software to Record and Publish: Anchor and Google Podcast (in Google Drive).

This class is all about podcasting. When it comes to podcasting there are several softwares that are standard on many technology devices like voice memos and GarageBand. There are so many different recording and podcasting softwares that it could a long time to teach them all. Our class focuses on one specific podcasting software - Anchor - which is a totally free website. It does require registering on the Anchor website. Another recording software that we look at in class is GarageBand, which is free on all Mac/Apple products from Mac computers, IPADS, and IPhones. The last recording software we look at is called Audacity, which is a totally free download for Mac and PC.
