This course will examine the wide range of career opportunities in sports broadcasting and sports podcasting. Our 90 minute class will also look at the process for writing a podcast, sports topics, and creating a sports broadcast/podcast. We will also examine how to become an excellent sports broadcaster (either color commentary or play-by-play). The majority of my professional career has been as a history and English educator. However, I have coached speech and debate as well as working in the sports broadcasting business. I played two years of college baseball, and excited to bring my experiences into the classroom where students will have the opportunity to develop a hands on project of creating their own podcast and practicing sports broadcasting. I am also a published sports podcaster. Course Topics and Activities: Introductions - Mr. Gullett, students, where we are all from, our interest in sorts (which is your favorite), examine sports journalism, and dive into radio sports broadcasting-sports pod casting-and sports talk shows. Introduce the learning activity of creating a sports broadcast, a segment of a sports talk show, and/or a sports broadcast. Next, we will dive deep into researching sports topics, how to think critically and analyze a sports topic to discussion in the context of sports broadcasting during a game, sports talk radio, and/or sports broadcasting. We will also examine podcasting technology and platform that the students want to create and have practice in. The 90 minute class will explore and use a hands on experience for students to create their own sports broadcast, sports play-by-play, and/or sports podcast. We will also learn the technology to publish a sports podcast. The class content and curriculum of the 90 minute lesson are part of sports (health/PE), technology, public communication, careers in sports (business), and English (writing). Have a blast talking sports and learning about the awesome careers in sports broadcasting and sports podcasting.
