This course will examine the wide range of career opportunities in sports broadcasting and sports podcasting. Our class lessons will also look at the process for writing a podcast, finding topics, and creating a sports broadcast. We will also examine how to become an excellent sports broadcaster (either color commentary or play-by-play). The majority of my professional career has been as a history and English educator. However, I have coached speech and debate as well as working in the sports broadcasting business. I played two years of college baseball, and excited to bring my experiences into the classroom where students will have the opportunity to develop a hands on project of creating their own podcast and practicing sports broadcasting.

Course Schedule, Topics, and Activities:
Lesson 1: Introductions -
Main Podcasting Content: YouTube Podcasting and Anchor (Spotify)
Mr. Gullett, students, where we are all from, our interest in sorts (which is your favorite), examine sports journalism, and dive into radio sports broadcasting-sports pod casting-and sports talk shows. Introduce the learning activity of creating a sports broadcast, a segment of a sports talk show, and/or a sports broadcast. In the first lesson we will start to look at the process of sports talk radio, sports broadcasting, and/or sports podcasting. We will dive deep into researching sports topics, how to think critically and analyze a sports topic to discussion in the context of sports broadcasting during a game, sports talk radio, and/or sports broadcasting. We will also narrow down the type of sport that each student picked and which type of technology platform or medium that the students want to create and have practice in. The second lesson is were we explore and use a hands on experience for students to create their own sports broadcast, sports play-by-play, and/or sports podcast.

Lesson 2:
Each student will present their learning project of a sports topic from a journalists or radio broadcasting point as well as the technological platform they picked. Such as students might pick an 8 minute sports topic in the context of a broadcast, or sports radio providing analysis, or using narration during a game to tell a true story of a player or players during the play-by-play of a sports contest, or a sports podcast.
Learning Goals
Our main learning goals will be to learn about careers in sports podcasting, YouTube, and in radio (broadcasting) - specifically sports broadcasting and sports podcasting. This course will explain the process or the "how to" in creating a sports broadcast or podcast, but students will also gain the experience to practice and create their sports broadcast and/or podcast.
