Class Experience
Students will learn and understand how sports have interacted with American culture and history. By the end of the course student will have a deeper understanding of their favorite games and the United States.
I have a BS degree in history. I taught high school history during my 20 year teaching career. I have been a football coach for over 30 years, coaching the game in three countries at the high school and semi-pro level. I am the author of "Big and Bright: Deep in the Heart of Texas High School Football".
At the end of each session, students will be given questions to consider and research. Time needed for independent study will depend on the interest of the individual.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Physically aggressive sports and warfare will be discussed. Some violent images may be shown in the context of the topics of the course.
