Spelling and Phonics: Blending Letters to Create Sounds and Writing

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
*This class is designed for learners who already know the letters of the alphabet, have a basic understanding of their individual sounds, and are able to write letters on their own. It is recommended for learners who need extra assistance with/or are learning how to read, phonics sounds, and basic spelling. * Each class will begin with learners listening to a short story based on the letter/blends we will be spelling words with, and will have its own theme. Learners will practice comprehension skills during this time by answering questions and recalling/repeating phrases as a group. Listening to stories has many other benefits as well, such as fostering imagination, improving the ability to focus/concentrate, and develop listening skills. In each class, learners will make the sounds of blended letters as a class, and learn to write the words of the day. As a class, we will make the blended sounds we hear in each word, identify the sounds we hear, and then spell the word. I will guide learners with spelling words using a dry erase board and marker - learners are welcome to use their own dry erase board and dry erase marker, or a pencil and paper. Knowing the sounds letters make when they are together is an essential skill for a growing reader to develop. Not only it is important to know each individual letter and the sounds it can make, but the sounds various combinations make when they are placed together. This is a fun, interactive, ongoing class. Each class is its own adventure that stands on its own. Each class is different, and may include variations of singing, recitation, writing, and drawing. Join at anytime! I would be honored to help your little one work on their phonics, spelling, and reading skills in one lesson or the entire course. I am a firm believer that leaders are readers. My goal is to foster a love for reading within learners.
